“You have to slow down on the wine. This is your third glass of the night,” Drew said.

“I can’t help it. I really need it, especially after earlier.”

“As I told you before, don’t let your marriage make you insecure. Damn sure don’t let a failed marriage turn you into an alcoholic either. Alcohol sucks the beauty out of a person,” he continued.

Drew was such a health nut but in a good way. This was our first official date and he ordered a side salad with water to drink to go with his main entree. I ordered a glass of wine which was my go-to whenever I felt stressed.

“I thought the whole purpose of this date was for me to ease your mind in the first place. My presence alone is supposed to be enough to relax you.”

“I know, I know. I just thought that I had control of this situation. It seems like I don’t. I mean, what would you do if you were in my situation?” I asked him, desperate for any advice that would allow me to move on from Savior for good.

Drew rubbed his ever-growing beard and said, “Hmm. What would I do if my spouse cheated and then refused to sign the divorce papers? First off, I wouldn’t constantly be begging that person for the divorce when I've started the process. To me, it seems as though you’re unsure about the divorce altogether. Like, half of you wants to be freed from the marriage. The other half of you wants to stick around and see if the marriage will actually work itself out.”

My mouth flung open at his last comment. “Really, Drew? Do you actually believe that I want the marriage to work out? He cheated with my best friend for years. Don’t you get it?”

Pushing his main dish to the side, he said, “No, do you actually get it? Savior isn’t serious about signing those papers because he knows that there’s something deep within you that don’t want him to do so.”

I rolled my eyes at Drew. “See? This is why I don’t like to mention Savior around you. You swear that I want an unfaithful husband. Why would I still want to be with a man that I had to share during the entire duration of my marriage? Make it make sense!”

“Make it make sense that you haven’t taken the proper steps to get the divorce despite having an uncooperative husband. You would know to request to enter a default had you actually met with a divorce lawyer. Even if you don’t request something like that, your divorce attorney would suggest it. So, with all that being said, did you actually meet with a lawyer?”

Drew’s question caught me completely off guard. Quickly, I took another swig of my wine. “Uh, actually, I haven’t met with a lawyer –,” I began.

“See? I knew it!” He cut me off. “You’re not serious at all. I’m starting to see exactly why your husband isn’t taking you seriously either.
